I
decided to become an artist
after I fell in love with New Mexico. I first came to Santa Fe with my
parents at the age of twelve. Even though we had traveled through Europe
and most of the U.S, New Mexico's landscape was unlike any other place
I had visited. My grandparents immigrated from Poland, and when I moved
to New Mexico, I felt a strange renewal of the cultural traditions that
were part of their daily lives: pictures of saints that hung on the walls,
and the um-pa-pa of the polkas that my Grandmother loved to hear. Please
visit my online gallery.
As
a teacher,
I like to incorporate my own experiences in New and Old Mexico into meaningful
hands-on workshops that students will not forget. These workshops are
available to teachers for professional development, and to students and
artists of all ages. Workshops include the following themes:
- Mexican
Folk Art
-
Corn Curriculum: Native American agriculture of the Rio Grande Valley
- Adobe
Architecture of New Mexico
-
Drawing and Painting in the Spirit of Georgia O'Keefe
-
Community and Collaborative Art Using Printmaking
I also like to take artists and teachers to visit Oaxaca in southern Mexico,
a unique city with exceptional folk art. Click
here for more information about upcoming tours.
